How to Clean Your Patio Quickly & Easily

With the summer now coming out in full force, it would be a good idea to enjoy your patio to its full potential, which is where cleaning your Somerset patio comes in.

Over the course of the year, your patio goes through a lot; the seasons put it through its paces with leaves, weather changes and weed growth, meaning that by the time 365 days have done their turn it’s looking a little worse for wear.

Cleaning your patio doesn’t have to be a chore though. With the right preparation you can clear it of any debris and nasties in a short time! Here’s what you need:

  • Hose or pressure washer
  • Bucket of warm water combined with washing up liquid
  • Soft brush
  • Stiff brush
  • Small knife (old) or hand shovel
  • Salt

Step 1: Clear the patio

If your Somerset patio is home to the bits and bobs of your garden maybe now is a good time to sort it out! Make three piles: keep, donate or bin – and be ruthless.

Step 2: Get rid of any weeds

Using your knife or hand shovel, dig up or pull out the weeds that have grown in and around your patio. You can pour salt in between the pavement slabs to help prevent weed regrowth, but make sure not to scatter your flowerbeds with the salt treatment!

Step 3: Sweep the patio

Use your stiff brush to thoroughly remove any dirt and debris that has accumulated on your Somerset patio.

Rinse down your patio with the hose or pressure washer (dependent on your preference). Remember to keep your spray nozzle the same distance from the ground for a more consistent clean. Make sure you avoid grouted areas, pots, plants and any outdoor lights.

Note: If your patio is really dirty, you can use additional cleaning solution that is suitable for your patio material such as white vinegar. Using a stiff brush scrub the patio down with the cleaning solution. Leave for about 10-15 (or more depending on the package directions) and then rinse thoroughly.

Step 5:

Wipe down your patio furniture or re-varnish your wooden seats and tables. If you have plastic furniture you can just wash it down with a soft sponge and some washing up liquid.
