Clean Your Windows for Spring

notaro-windows-winterAutumn and winter have probably left your windows looking less than clear. Now that it’s officially spring and we’re travelling towards summer it’s a great time to prepare your windows for the warmer weather. If you don’t have self-cleaning glass, here’s the next best thing: our top window cleaning tips to help with your spring cleaning.

Tip #1: Clean your windows on a cloudy day!

As lovely as it is to start your cleaning on a sunny spring day, on this occasion the sunlight actually works against you as the cleaning solutions dry and create streaky marks before you’ve had a chance to polish them up.

Tip #2: Gather your tools/supplies before you start!

It may seem like an obvious thing but how many times have you started a job and then had to stop because you didn’t have all the required materials? Queue getting in the car to replenish your supplies, returning home with your purchases and losing the will to finish the job. By getting all your ducks in a row beforehand you can clean your windows quickly and reward yourself with a cup of tea by your newly cleaned windows.

Here’s a short list of what you might need:

  • Bucket
  • Detergent (specific to your window frame)
  • Sponge
  • Cleaning cloths
  • Drying cloths
  • Newspaper (optional)

Tip #3: Remove any dry dirt and debris before you start dunking!

Use a brush or cloth to gently wipe away any cobwebs, dust or debris. If you put your wet sponge on a dirty, gritty window, you’ll be making it even dirtier and clog up your sponge. This means that you’ll spend more time cleaning your sponge than the window – not ideal at all.
