A Quick Guide to Conservatory Roof Cleaning

IMG_1545Luckily, the roof of a conservatory doesn’t need cleaning too often, but when it does it can be a difficult process. Of course there is the option of self-cleaning glass, but for those who do not have this luxury, here is a quick guide on how to finish the job as quickly and painlessly as possible! As one of the leading conservatory manufacturer in Somerset, we have the expertise to get your conservatory roof sparkling!

There are three basic elements to conservatory roof cleaning – preparation, product choice and cleaning method.

Preparing to clean your conservatory roof

To make life easier for yourself, spend some time researching into the best soaps to use. There is an enormous array of cleaning products available, many of which are designed specifically for outdoor use. A deep-cleaning but gentle outdoor soap is recommended.

Products to use

IMG_1604The biggest hurdle with conservatory cleaning is how to access the roof. We never recommend standing on the roof, particularly if its made of glass, and standing at the top of a tall ladder can be dangerous, especially if you’re completing the job by yourself. Therefore, you need to use a tool that will allow you to clean effectively with both feet on the ground.

There are two main options; using a sponge with an extendable handle or investing in a water-fed pole.

Using a water-fed pole would be the best option as this allows soap and water to be pumped along the handle and directly into the area you are scrubbing. These, however, can be pricey so, while they do require a little more coordination, using a sponge on the end of a pole is just as good!

Conservatory roof clean method

The key to getting the job done as efficiently as possible is organising your tools and working methodically.

Before starting, do all necessary preparation beforehand and secure the surrounding area. If you have decided to use a small stepladder, ensure the ground is flat and the ladder is balanced. We would also recommend that if you do have to use a ladder get someone to hold it steady and be there to pass you any tools when needed.

IMG_1266Work methodically, from one side of the roof to the other. This will reduce the possibility of missing any spots or going over the same area many times. Also, be sure to rinse the sponge thoroughly each time you use it, as this will reduce the appearance of excessive water spots on the glass. Don’t be scared to apply lots of soap and scrub hard, particularly when it comes to the more stubborn dirt. At no point should you resort to an abrasive tool – some spots may be particularly tough but with enough soap and elbow grease, a sponge or water-fed tool will do the job.
