New Year, New Home, New You?

With the curtains closing on 2014 we at Notaro Windows in Somerset think that now would be a great time to start thinking about your New Years’ resolutions regarding your home.Notaro_Windows_146

It’s no secret that many of us promise ourselves that we’ll be better at eating healthily, going to the gym and generally reaching for the moon, but what about your home? Doesn’t it deserve the same effort that you’ll be putting into yourself?

We’ve put together some home improvement resolutions for 2015 that will help you enjoy your home more – what are you waiting for?!

  1. Minimise your clutter – the fastest way to feel better about your home is to have a clear-out. Every month we acquire items that in retrospect we don’t need or no longer use. Going through each room and being tough and honest regarding what can and can’t stay will leave your home cleaner and your head clearer. Why not split your throwaways into three areas: bin, recycle or donate, that way you’re not just simply moving your rubbish from inside the house to outside the house. You know what they say: one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
  1. Make sure your home is safe (gas) – We’ve all got that list of ways to proof the home, but now is the time where you should be taking action. In addition to the smoke alarms around your home, make sure there is a carbon monoxide detector on each bedroom floor. Carbon monoxide alarms typically cost around £15 from your local DIY shop so it’s not a big cost for you to be extra safe.
  1. Make sure your home is safe (fire) – You should be replacing the batteries in your smoke alarm once a year unless your alarm has a 10-year battery. You should also look at getting a new smoke alarm after 10 years. To avoid unnecessary flames clear the lint in the vents of your tumble dryer as it may be small but is highly flammable and combustible.
